I can also add for general information that in an MFC-215C, only need to hit keys "Menu" and "*" in sequence to put the machine in maintenance mode.
There are actually two ports, the other is for the FAX to send info to your computer, I haven't used that yet.Here are the notes I stored in a file for Does anyone know how to fix this, because all methods are not working for my machine? I am a dedicated family man, gamer, music fan and friend to all. Why doesn't bother site give this solution... i will get my ass kick for unfinished printing i have on my table. i cant find any solution to that problem.

Machine Error 46
I have dismantled the printer and clean the waste ink pad. For "power on" method you must hold the small MENU button (located near the big FAX button) while plugging the power cable. your instruction was super clear and so easy to follow that i got it on one try. Unable To Clean 46 Brother Mfc-440cn I've called to Brother Service centre in Malaysia, they said "unable to clean 46" error should be problem wiht ink absorber, ask me to send to nearest service centre, very troublesm.So, AND IT WORKED.
I fear you may have a mechanical issue there which would need proper diagnosis by a technician.
